What is Inspiration?

The definition of inspiration is an inspiring or animating action or influence. Or a thing or person that inspires as in to influence or impel or to fill or affect with a specified feeling or thought.

Some synonyms for inspiration might be motivation, revelation, insight, influence, encouragement, incentive, enthusiasm, vision, illumination, and creativity.

What on earth is inspiration?
It’s not just the opposite of expiration.
Yes, it’s breathing in, that’s one translation…
But, it’s also a conspicuous part of creation.

Does inspiration arrive after contemplation,
Pondering, all day and all night?
Does it come to you through your imagination,
Appearing from far out of sight?

Perhaps it comes to you from all sorts of directions.
Do you feel it from calm family connections?
You might see it in a parent’s strength and endurance,
Or, you see it in a child’s resilience and courage …

Maybe it comes from wisdom or mindfulness…
Or, you feel it from reflection or awareness?
Maybe it comes with joy and happiness…
And, from where, you just couldn’t care less.

When is it that you most feel
Extraordinarily inspired?
Is it when you’re wide awake,
Or when you’re feeling quite tired?

Does inspiration come from getting up early,
Or do you feel it when staying up late?
Maybe you feel it from love, hope, or faith?
Where in the world does it originate?

From the morning sunrise,
From an evening sunset?
Sometimes you remember,
Sometimes you forget.

Sometimes from a sight,
Other times from a sound;
Sometimes from the people
Who you’re just hanging around.

Possibly it’s inspiration from all, so peaceful.
Or it’s anything that just makes you feel gleeful…
Maybe you hear it in a harmony of laughter,
Inspiring you to do something right after…

The sight or the sound of waves crashing on a beach,
Maybe that’s when your imagination starts to reach.
Is it in nature when walking through tall trees;
Or, do you feel it in the air, from a beautiful breeze?

Can inspiration lead to feelings of compassion?
Maybe, that’s creativity with fashion?
Is it spirituality with kindness of attitude,
Maybe it’s focus with an abundance of gratitude…

Part of inspiration is the phrase, “in spirit.”
I genuinely believe that none of us fear it.
Whether we feel it, see it, or hear it,
Celebrate inspiration from all,
For all of us live very near it…
